Dine In: Afternoon Tea for 2 at The Plough Boutique Inn, Alnwick

Today we visited The Plough Boutique Inn for afternoon Tea in the beautiful town of Alnwick. It’s located just before the Tower entrance to the town. There is ample parking available either on site at the restaurant or further down at Greenfell Parking (round the back of Alnwick Gardens).

Firstly the interior of the Plough is absolutely gorgeous, with blue grey tones, country style fabrics, leather sofas and a mix of modern and industrial light fixtures. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and inviting. We arrived early as we were having a business meeting beforehand, perfect for me as I wanted to take some pictures of the place before the lunch rush hour!

We decided to sit at the back of the restaurant, purely for the work space and the fact that I had already seen a couple of images of the Afternoon Tea spread and I knew we needed the space… once seated we were promptly served by Claire and in fact I was pretty impressed with the attentive detail – making sure we were alright, had enough refreshments and making sure our luncheon order of Afternoon tea was timed right for us.

We chose the luxury “Afternoon Tea”, which consisted of open sandwiches with a selection of fresh fillings. For me, I most enjoyed the homemade terrine with local cheese and home made chutney, my friend preferred the egg/mayo twist on the old classic. Unfortunately neither of us liked salmon, which was a great shame as it was beautifully presented. I wish I liked it but sadly my taste buds say no. That said, when I was asked if everything was to my tasting and I mentioned the fact we didn’t like salmon, Claire did say we should have said and they would have provided an alternative filling. Oops, my fail.

This is a close up of the terrine with cheese and chutney on a homemade sourdough bread.

Savouries out of the way, we then tucked into the two types of scones, cheese and a white chocolate/cherry with clotted cream and jam. WOW. The cheese scone was light, airy, and subtle in flavour. The cherry scone was equally as nice, I didn’t get the white chocolate coming through but that may of been because I overloaded it with clotted cream and jam. I really enjoyed this.

What I did absolutely enjoy was the delicious sticky toffee pudding, oh, and the lemon posset which I generously spread onto the homemade shortbread biscuit. Everything on the menu is fresh, local and homemade. I very much enjoyed my Afternoon Tea, but actually what’s piques my interest is the “Beef Supper Club”. That, my friend, well, if you like your food like me, follow me and I’ll show you the best places to dine.

The Plough Boutique Inn is located in Alnwick, it also has a popular sister restaurant in Craster known as “The Jolly Fisherman”. The Plough Boutique Inn serves the famous and oh so popular dishes such as the Craster Kipper Scotch Egg, The Ploughs Famous Crab Soup and the Plough Fish board amongst other fine dining treats! I have my eyes on the burger or chateaubriand for 2. I l know my mam will go for a fish dish, probably the following:

MERLUZA ALA GALLEGA ‘ONE POT DISH’ Hake, Chorizo, Spring Onions, New Potatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, White Wine, Saffron Garlic Rouille and Artisan Bread – how delicious does that sound 🙂

For more information, you can view their online menu here

This restaurant is wheel chair friendly and dog friendly. So if your holidaying at one of our lodges there are plenty of places to visit locally.

I hope you enjoy your visit to Alnwick, it’s a fabulous Market Town with abundance of history, museums, art galleries, gift shops, bars, cafe’s, taverns and restaurants.

Northumberland Walks: Thrunton Woods

Northumberland Walks: Thrunton Woods

One of the reason’s I relocated to Northumberland from Newcastle was because I enjoyed the many walks with Woody. We have walked miles upon miles, exploring the rich heritage and taking in the breathtaking views. Thrunton Wood is definitely in my top 10 of walks. You can walk for a couple of miles or you can take different routes and notch up those miles. This walk, we managed 9 miles.

These images were taken on the 11th February 2018, below I will post some of my images taken in July and October in 2017. It’s a fantastic place all year around to explore.
